I was thinking of the immortal words of Homer, who said...

D'oh! All this time I thought people could post to my blog--it turns out that I didn't enable outside posting.

Well, you live, you learn. Thank you to Dum Pendebat, who pointed out this unfortunate oversight.

Heh, I actually tried to comment a few days ago, but obviously couldn't since my blog's on another site. Was going to say something when I made my obligatory stop at my favorite restaurant on saturday.

I'm not familiar with blogger, do they have community journals that work like forums where multiple people can post in the same journal? livejournal.com has communities dedicated to learning Arabic (as well as a million other interests) I found a handful that I think you'd find interesting. If this site already offers the same sort of thing and I'm just pointing out something obvious I apologize in advance.

Ciao.

I don't actually know. I've just gotten on the blogosphere (yay buzzwords!) and I don't really know the distinctions yet. This is my first foray into the frey.

I'll check out livejournal and see what they have going on, but if you know of any specific links or resources, I'd love to hear about them.

Thanks!

Blogger doesn't have "communities" like LiveJournal has, but one can add "members" to one's Blogger blog and let them post entries to it. Liberal Avenger is a good example of a Blogger group blog (as well as being a very good blog).

Well, here's a few links just for starters. I just tried searching for a few general topics that tie in with politics and the middle east, and then looked for good communities that had them listed (you have to sift through a ton of irrelevant ones unfortunately.)

You might find some of these at least interesting:

http://www.livejournal.com/community/arabic_lang/

http://www.livejournal.com/community/arabic/

http://www.livejournal.com/community/m_e_c_c_a/

http://www.livejournal.com/community/muslims/

http://www.livejournal.com/community/iraq_war/

http://www.livejournal.com/community/israel_arab/

All you have to do to find others is go to livejournal.com and in the upper right hand coner there are two fields, just type the topic you want to search for into the 'search' one and then drag the 'category' box down to 'interest.' It will give you a list first of communities interested in that topic, followed by a list of individual users who are.

This is the reason I have not bothered with myspace yet, you end up meeting a lot of people with similar interests to yours when you join communities like these. I, for example, belong to a number of art and fiction journals, and I've made a lot of online friends as a result.

If you found a community like these that you wanted to join, you can create a blog on livejournal but not bother posting to it. A lot of people have puppet journals that they use solely for commenting on their friend's blogs or participating in communities.

Unfortunately I'm not nearly as savvy on politics and current events as you are, so I can't make as relevant reccomendations as I'd like.
